2022 EDITION
OVERVIEW
The keynote theme of this year’s conference, which permeated the entire program, was Biodiversity, Health and the Mediterranean Diet: From Land and Sea to the Professional Kitchen.
This theme of biodiversity—considered broadly with the context of the greater Mediterranean region—allowed us to think about sustainability, culture, flavor, and business strategies in a concrete way, at all stages of a full-cycle food system, and empower stakeholders in their efforts to take care of the planet.
The third edition of Tomorrow Tastes Mediterranean explored those themes with leading scientists and other biodiversity experts, chefs and other food industry leaders, NGO and government leaders, and cultural authorities from around Europe, the Mediterranean and beyond.
The biodiversity theme begins with the foundation of the U.N Sustainable Development Goals and the EU’s European Green Deal (with its Farm to Fork Strategy) and a recognition that the traditional Mediterranean Diet provides both a promising pathway to address contemporary diet and health challenges and a model for building on the foundations of a centuries-old heritage of sustainable food systems.
Tomorrow Tastes Mediterranean 2022 highlighted efforts to promote, preserve, and renew biodiversity within the Mediterranean region.
The conference and the magazine alike advanced strategies within the regional food sector—including agriculture and fisheries, restaurants and foodservice, retailers, manufacturers, and other food system stakeholders—that better align with these biodiversity and other sustainability goals.
We placed a special emphasis on the potential of chefs and food/culinary experts to include biodiversity as a critical reference point for purchasing, menu design, communications, and consumer engagement throughout the countries bordering on the Mediterranean.
