INSTITUTE FOR NUTRITION AND FOOD SAFETY RESEARCH OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BARCELONA (INSA-UB)

The Institute for Nutrition and Food Safety Research of the University of Barcelona (INSA-UB) is an institute that responds to the demands of society in research, training and services in the agri-food field. Its researchers are experts in nutrition, food analysis and control, food safety and the study of the social and economic impact of food. Since November 2022, INSA-UB has been awarded the María de Maeztu seal of excellence by the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

INSA’s main objectives are to promote research, foster multidisciplinary collaboration, participate in research programs, especially at the European level, and develop joint projects with companies in the sector. In addition, it seeks to transfer knowledge and advise consumers, companies and administrations on nutrition, quality and food safety issues.

The Institute’s research is organized into three main programs: Food, Diet and Health; Food Control; and Food Innovation and Sustainability. Its work ranges from the development of functional foods and new production technologies to the application of advanced biotechnology in food analysis, positioning itself as a benchmark in food innovation.
