Konstantinos Lazarakis

Master of Wine (MW), born in Piraeus, is the first Master of Wine from Greece and Southern Europe, earning the title in 2002. His achievements include the prestigious “Bollinger Medal” for excellence in blind tasting and the “Villa Maria Award” for viticulture performance, making him one of only 13 experts in IMW history to receive both honors.
In 2004, he founded WSPC®, the Greek branch of WSET®, which was named the world’s best WSET provider in 2009. His book The Wines of Greece (2005) was shortlisted for the Andre Simon Memorial Award, with an updated edition released in 2018. In recognition of his contribution to wine education, he received the Noval Award as “MW Communicator of the Year” in 2006 and was named Honorary Weinakademiker by the Austrian Wine Academy in 2012.
Beyond education, Mr. Lazarakis is the General Manager of AIOLOS S.A. and co-owner of Wine Wonders LLC. He consults for Greek and international wineries, as well as hospitality and aviation businesses like Costa Navarino and Aegean Airlines. A prolific writer, he contributes to Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book and various trade publications.
He is the President of the Thessaloniki International Wine & Spirits Competition and has chaired the Balkan International Wine & Spirits Competition. Active in the global wine community, he remains committed to advancing Greek wine internationally.
