Maria Nicolau
Cook, Writer, Bestseller and Enthusiast; Vilanova de Sau, Spain
Maria Nicolau (La Garriga, 1982) is cook by trade and vocation. She has worked for more than twenty-five years in restaurants located in Catalonia, Spain and France. She has earned her living in kitchens of all kinds and conditions. She has served from multitudinous wedding banquets to luxury lunches for exclusive diners in private homes. She has prepared rice for two hundred on a butane gas stove in a rave in the middle of a cow pasture at four o’clock in the morning by the light of a battery-operated headlamp, and tasting menus of what we would call fine culinary linen in top restaurants.
Today she lives, cooks and writes in a village of three hundred inhabitants in the middle of nature in Osona. Her keyboard is always full of crumbs. She has written Cuina! O barbarie (Ara Llibres, 2022) and Cremo! (Columna, 2024), two culinary and literary phenomens. She is a regular contributor to El Matí de Catalunya Ràdio, Tot es Mou on TV3 and a columnist for the newspaper El País. She has released “Cuina salvatge” on the digital content platform 3Cat and you can always find her making noise on social networks.
