Dr. Michel Lucas is a Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at Laval University’s Faculty of Medicine. He brings a unique perspective to nutrition, combining expertise in epidemiology and population health with culinary medicine.
Dr. Lucas completed a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics, a master’s degree in public health, and a doctorate in epidemiology, all from Laval University. He further strengthened his research foundation with postdoctoral studies at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (with Dr. Walter Willett) and completed a chef’s diploma at the École hôtelière de la Capitale. This multifaceted background allows Dr. Lucas to bridge the gap between theory and practice, fostering connections across disciplines.
Dr. Lucas’s research focuses on “planetary health,” particularly promoting population health interventions through culinary medicine. He uses culinary art as a tool to connect food and well-being, aiming to improve population health through sustainable dietary changes that are enjoyable and promote long-term adherence.
