JOSÉ MIGUEL HERRERO VELASCO

Acting General Director of Food Industry, Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Madrid, Spain

Agricultural Engineer specializing in Agricultural Economics from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Master in Foreign Trade and expert in Data Analysis in Social and Market Research from the Complutense University of Madrid. For twenty years, as a government official, he has been promoting and leading change in the agri-food sector from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Currently, and since June 2018, he has held the position of Director General of the Food Industry, in charge of the implementation and design of Spain’s food policy. During this stage, he has driven the promotional campaigns of “Food from Spain. The richest country in the world”, he has participated in the regulation of the quality standards for bread and olive oil; in the drafting of the new Food Chain law and in the draft law on Food Losses and Waste.

He is a trustee of several foundations in the agri-food sector and has been a member of the Board of Directors of MERCASA for ten years. He has also been a professor at Business Schools and Universities such as ESIC Business & Marketing School, Nebrija University or IE Business School.

He participates in national and international forums to transmit from MAPA the changes in the agri-food sector.

Very active in social networks, in 2014 he founded the #ClubNuncaComasSolo (Club Never Eat Alone) a personal project of “emotional networking” where he connects inspiring people through gastronomy.
